In just the last generation, the richest 1% almost quadrupled their incomes. The average wealth of the 1% is 225 times bigger than the wealth of the typical household – the highest it’s ever been. The divide between the richest and the poorest is getting worse. The poor are getting poorer and the rich are getting filthy rich. The numbers of the richest 1% around the world are eye-popping. 11 million people, or just 0.15%, control $42 trillion dollars, that’s two thirds of world GDP. An even tinier group of people, 0.001%, control a third of that amount. Where are they based? What could this money pay for? How much wealth does that leave for the rest of us?
