Mugly, a British dog took the World’s Ugliest Dog 2012 competition by storm. He was crowned the ugliest and received the award at the 24th annual World’s Ugliest Dog contest in Petaluma. The 8-year-old rescue dog won $1,000 and a year’s supply of dog cookies, as well as a VIP star at a Sheraton hotel.

Mugly beat off strong competition from 28 other contenders, including Handsome Hector, Rue, Icky, Spam-O-Rama and Mouse. Owner Nicholson said of the award: “I couldn’t speak when they announced Mugly’s name. I didn’t know which way to look. I was shaking as much as the dog.” She also said that the dog is no stranger to acclaim in the specialised field of canine ugliness, having been named the least attractive dog in Britain in 2005.
